What is up with my hair?

So for a hair blog I feel like I have been neglecting to tell you about my hair for awhile now! Well it is still there, it has not been chopped off or harmed in any way. I have also not done any new protective styles, for oh a few months now

I think when the last twists only lasted about a week I decided it was time to take a break from them for awhile. And to be honest I have been loving my hair lately. I have been rocking the wash and go most of the time like it ain’t no bodies business.

I tried my first fishtail braid a couple of weeks ago and I loved it! It is actually a super easy braid, and that is coming from someone who still hasn’t mastered how to to a frenchbraid on myself yet. It is easy it holds all my hair out of my face and looks much more complicated than it is. And as an added bonus that just means that my hair is finally long enough to do braids like this as a style.

Wash and go 1,2 and 3! The second two pictures come from the same day, it was the day Mr. and I signed on our first house together and picked out his tux for the wedding!  Very exciting day! And my hair was large and wonderful! I love the volume and body that each wash and go brings and I can normally get two to three days of wear out of it.

This is a twist out on a three day old wash and go! Mr. suprised me with a concert of one of my favorite bands this night, i loved him for it and I loved my hair and shirt that night! Really we were just rocking it that evening!

This picture has nothing to do with my hair, except for the fact that I rocked a messy bun that day, my hair is very insignificant in this picture! But I love it!  I was feeling sassy and wanted to show up my nails and my ring! because really who doesn’t. But I thought this was a fun way to do just that.

So there it is. . my hair for the last month. I am getting the itch to straighten it and check the length so maybe at next wash day we will see how we are coming. Three more months till my hair’s big day. .. my wedding, so I guess there is more to that day than my hair. But just barely right?!

Day 365

Its New years eve y’all! The last day of 2014, tomorrow is what you make of it. People like to act like this is the new chapter of the book of life, but in reality in my mind everyday can be that new chapter, everyday is what you make of it. So whether you decide to change your life on January 1st or June 4th or November 23rd, it can be a blank slate a new space for you to be who you want to be, so make the most of it.

In 6 days it will be my Hair anniversary. My last relaxer, which was by accident and a mistake was on January 6th 2014. I have trimmed but still have relaxed ends that I am just now really noticing as a problem .IMG_0405  This was my wet wash-n-go yesterday. Look at those ends. they are just limp and hang there no life or bounce at all. I am thinking January will possibly call for their removal. At least in the bang section, I don’t notice them as much around the rest of my head, and don’t know if I am ready to part with that length yet.

IMG_0407This is the same wash-n-go today. It is dry and I simply added a tiny bit of mouse and some curl activator. Still noticing those limp ends hanging in front. They have got to go. I made the mistake of combing the front section of my hair, in thought to prepare for a roller set, when that didn’t happen I am left with just frizz as a result. But I am ok with it for now.

Overall over this year, I can not think of anything more accurate to say than, ” My hair is my hobby.” I have fallen in love with the ability to change my hair, to change my attitude with it. It is something that I now take pride in and it and hope to share with people.

This year brought lots of changes for me, Grad school, engagement, as well as my natural hair journey. All of these things have made for a wonderful 2014, and excitement for 2015, which will bring grad school graduation, marriage, and hopefully a full head of natural hair that is achieving some of my hair goals.

I will set hair goals later and share them with you, probably,  in my first post of 2015. What are some of your goals, hair related or otherwise? All goals are good to share I believe.

I hope you all have  safe and AMAZING NYE! Make the most of this day, of day 365. But remember make the most of day 1, 35 and 178 as well. all days matter, and all days can be whatever you want them to be.

Learning to rock the Wash-n-go!

Tonight I am trying something I have consistently done since high school, when my hair was completely natural, never been relaxed, the wash n go! During my wash day I came to the realization that at 10 months post relaxer my hair was now more natural hair than relaxed and I wanted to see what my natural hair is like dry.

So first I pre-poo’d with egg yolk and olive oil for 45 minutes, washed with my new Renewing Morrocan Oil Shampoo and conditioned with the same brand. cond

I have been wanting to try this brand for a while and finally bought it and am going to try it for about a month and decide, at first glance I am not sure how I feel about it it did not provide a lot of slip that I normally find with my conditioner but it did seem to provide my hair moisture and I did not find my hair to be terribly tangled while finger combing it.

So then I T-shirt dried my hair for 30 minutes, applied coconut oil and cantu shea butter moisturizer my favorite moisturizer to date. Trying the wash n go is something new for me, but I am loving the curls I see in my natural hair, especially around my nape. They are making me more and more excited about the styles that I will be able to rock throughout my transition and with my natural hair. I have also retained much more length during these 10 months than I have in the past years.

I hope that this look holds up in the morning, if not, bun-life it is!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week. What are your tricks for a wash-n-go style?

I am always looking for tips and tricks for this journey!

Love your do and grow that fro
